OUR STORY
Then the ticking started again – only louder. This was the same ticking I had first heard at the camp. I rushed over to the trunks, checking Father’s trunk first, then Claude’s, they were right next to one another, covered with canvas blankets.  As I pulled off the blankets, the ticking stopped. I still couldn’t tell which trunk the ticking came from. I tried to lift the heavy lid on each, but they were both locked. I tried to move around
to the back to see the name tags, but couldn’t make out the names in the darkness. However, as I ran my fingers over the engraved tags, I could make out Claude’s name. I moved over to Father’s trunk, I knew that he kept a hidden key in a loose board over on the side of the trunk. As I poked at the loose board, it popped off and slid underneath the trunk, revealing the envelope taped in the void with the spare key inside.
